Week of January 11th – 15th

The MTMS PTA Board met this week. One important point of discussion is succession planning for the PTA. We have several board members moving on with their students next school year, as their students move into high school. The PTA must have three critical positions filled to operate: President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We are very lucky to have a Treasurer Elect that is learning the ropes from the current Treasurer throughout this year. The current Vice President has offered to move up to the President role. However, we need a Secretary to be able to continue to operate the MTMS PTA.

Those are the three key roles that must be filled, but for the PTA to function effectively we need many more volunteers. If you have any interest in volunteering next year for the MTMS PTA, now is the time to contact us and begin to learn a few things from those currently in the role. This helps the PTA transition smoothly into the next school year. In addition to the Secretary mentioned above, we are also actively recruiting a Vice President/Fundraising Coordinator and a Japanese Immersion Parent Representative.

The MTMS PTA will discuss the volunteer opportunities and succession planning during our next general PTA meeting. Please attend the first 30 minutes of the meeting to learn about these opportunities and to hear about some fundraising activities coming up in next few months. We need each and every one of you that is interested in volunteering either in a board position or to help with varying PTA events!

The next PTA general meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. The first 30 minutes will be reserved for PTA business. As mentioned above, this will focus on volunteers/succession planning for the next school year and a fundraising update. The remaining hour of the meeting, we will be learning about restorative justice from Keela Tillery, PPS RJ Specialist and Diana Collins, PPS Multi-Tiered System of Support TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment). We welcome anyone in the Mt. Tabor Middle School community to join for the entire meeting or just for those times that you are able to make it work.
